Battery Safety Engineer

What will you do as Battery Safety Engineer?
During innovation and pioneering, not everything goes according to the “ideal path”. As Battery Safety Engineer you will create this path within Big Ass Battery! You play an important role in guaranteeing the safety and reliability of our battery energy storage systems throughout their entire lifecycle. You will work closely with our multidisciplinary team of mechanical, electrical, software and mechatronics engineers. You will identify potential hazards, limit risks and design safety systems. You ensure that our innovative product meets all necessary safety standards and requirements. We strive for the highest safety standards and your expertise is very important in achieving and maintaining these standards for all our systems now and in the future!

As Battery Safety Engineer you support the projects within Big Ass Battery and in order to do so you are in contact with many different stakeholders ranging from customers, suppliers and various internal departments and external agencies. You are constructive in your approach and you think along with the engineers from a practical point of view, the world is not always black or white. In this new and rapidly developing field of technology, your safety designs and implementations may become tomorrow’s standard! Your responsibilities include:

  • carrying out safety assessments and risk analysis for our battery energy storage systems
  • translating relevant safety standards into design requirements and subsequently ensuring implementation as part of the Product Development team
  • working closely with R&D to integrate safety features and protocols into our product design
  • developing and maintaining safety documentation, including risk assessments and safety plans
  • monitor and evaluate safety performance during testing
  • become the “oracle/guru/el jefe” whatever fits you best within Big Ass Battery on the latest safety standards and regulations
  • collaborate with external organizations regarding safety certifications and compliance and f.e. assist in internal and external audits

What do we expect you will bring to Big Ass Battery?
It won’t surprise you, but we are looking for people with energy! You get excited about working at a fast-growing company where the future is open and where it is bubbling with ambition. You are curious, eager to learn and safety with a pragmatic view is your middle name! (Or something similar ;-)). Furthermore, you recognize yourself in the following profile;

  • a Bachelor or Master degree in electrical engineering, with experience in system engineering or similar
  • we believe that your personality, drive and vision are more important than the number of years of experience, but a “proven track record” is nice to take with you!
  • knowledge of European product guidelines (CE) and EMC guidelines
  • knowledge of product compliance and product safety (f.e. Low Voltage Directive/LVD)
  • knowledge of safety regulations and standards relevant to battery systems such as PGS 37-1 with the associated analytical talents and attention to detail
  • we consider knowledge of the principles of system engineering as a big plus
  • you have excellent communication skills in both English and Dutch, both verbally as in writing
  • a bit of a cliché, but work hard, play hard may be your motto ;-

What do we have to offer you?
First of all; a whole lot of energy and ambition! We also offer a job with room for personal input, new ideas and initiative. Because in a fast-growing company you can really make a difference! We offer, among other things:

  • A fitting salary based on your educational background and relevant experience, on top of that we offer a 13th month!
  • We follow the collective labor agreement for the Technical Installation Company (Technisch Installatiebedrijf)
  • You receive 25 vacation days and 13 ATV days annually (based on a 40-hour working week). Enough time to recharge your personal battery!
  • You will also work together with energetic and passionate colleagues who are willing to share knowledge
  • Plenty of training opportunities
  • A mobile phone and laptop
